Independence Day Celebrations
12th March 2024
The children of Baranku School took part in an annual
regional celebration to mark the 59th Independence Day. Independence Day is an annual celebration on
18th February to mark the date that The Gambia became independent of
the United Kingdom in 1965. The schools
for younger children have their own special celebration a few weeks after the
official Independence Day.
The children, along with children from other schools from
across the West Coast Region 2 of the country, got together in Tanji, a town on
the Atlantic coast 20km from the school.
The festivities included a march past of all the children, there was music, lots of sporting activities, balloons and food & drink.
Everyone had a lovely day and are looking forward to next year which
marks the 60th anniversary of independence for The Gambia.
